Zack Greinke flashed his Cy Young winning form to lift the Kansas City Royals to a 7-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds in the rubber-game of their interleague series on Sunday.
Greinke (2-8) allowed three runs and five hits with 12 strikeouts in a complete game performance. He did not walk a batter and allowed two runs in the first before shutting down the Reds and allowing a solo shot in the ninth.
Billy Butler was 4-for-5 with four RBIs for the Royals. Butler hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning and added a two-run double in the seventh to make it 5-2.
Sam LeCure (1-3) took the loss for the Reds. He allowed four runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings. LeCure walked three and struck out four but was no match for last year's American League Cy Young winner.
Joey Votto was about the only Cincinnati hitter to figure out Greinke on Sunday as he blasted a pair of homers. His first shot in the first inning gave the Reds a 2-1 lead, he also homered in the ninth.
