Alberto Callaspo’s two-out, two-run double in the top of the 11th inning carried the Kansas City Royals to a 4-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday.
After the first two batters of the 11th were retired, the Royals surged back against Lance Cormier (2-1). Scott Podsednik singled and Alex Gordon and Jose Guillen drew walks before Callaspo hit a pitch to deep right field for the go-ahead runs.
Robinson Tejeda (2-2) worked three perfect innings to nab the win. Joakim Soria stranded the tying runs on base to pick up the save.
Yuniesky Betancourt and Chris Getz both had RBI singles in the second inning as the Royals took the 2-0 lead.
The Rays got the runs back on Reid Brignac’s single that plated B.J. Upton in the second and another on Evan Longoria’s run-producing double-play in the third.
Ben Zobrist reached base four times - including three hits - for Tampa Bay, which dropped its second straight.
