Trevor Cahill dominated through seven innings and Kevin Kouzmanoff drove in three runs as the Oakland Athletics easily dispatched the Cleveland Indians, 6-1, on Wednesday.
Jack Cust added two hits and an RBI and Rajai Davis drove in a run for the A’s, who have won six of their last eight.
Cahill (14-5) allowed an unearned run and seven hits while striking out two and walking a pair. The 22-year-old right-hander has surrendered a total of four earned runs in his last six outings to lower his ERA to 2.43 and thrust himself into the thick of the American League Cy Young conversation.
Oakland gave Cahill all the support he would need in the first, jumping on Cleveland starter Mitch Talbot (8-11) for five runs.
Daric Barton drew a one-out walk and Talbot hit Kurt Suzuki with a pitch to put two runners on in front of Cust, who singled to right to push across the first run. After Mark Ellis walked, Davis singled to left to make it 2-0 and load the bases for Kouzmanoff, who slammed a double to deep center field to add three more.
Asdrubal Cabrera drove in the lone run for the Indians, who have dropped four straight and six of seven.
