Matt Garza and three relievers combined on a three-hitter to lead the Tampa Bay Rays to a 4-0 win over the Cleveland Indians on Saturday night.
Garza (10-5) limited the Indians to one hit over six innings to notch the win. He allowed just one walk and struck out two.
The Rays scored all their runs with two outs, including twice in the fourth inning. Ben Zobrist got things started with a walk off loser Aaron Laffey. Sean Rodriguez followed with a ground-rule double over the left-field wall and Gabe Kapler singled to center to score both runners.
It was all that Garza and the bullpen would need with Grant Balfour, Joaquin Benoit and Lance Cormier each working scoreless innings in relief for the Rays.
Willy Aybar’s single in the fifth inning scored Evan Longoria, who had doubled, to make it 3-0. Jason Bartlett’s two-out double in the eighth inning scored Zobrist to close out the scoring.
Laffey (1-3) allowed all three runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings.
