Matt LaPorta drove in the winning run with a single in the 10th inning, giving the Cleveland Indians a 5-4 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday night.
The winning rally began with Travis Hafner's one-out double off Craig Breslow (3-2). Anderson Hernandez ran for Hafner at second, and Austin Kearns was walked intentionally. After Jhonny Peralta flied out to deep center, LaPorta hit a 3-2 pitch on the ground into center field.
Tony Sipp (1-2) pitched the 10th for the Indians.
Clay Mortensen got the start for the A's after being recalled from Triple-A to replace Dallas Braden, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with stiffness in his left elbow. Mortensen pitched six innings, giving up four runs and six hits. He struck out a career-high seven batters.
After Jayson Nix hit a two-run homer in the first, the Indians scored twice more in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. LaPorta's single to left scored Austin Kearns from second base and Jhonny Peralta scored from first when the ball bounced past left fielder Gabe Gross.
Jake Westbrook allowed three runs (two earned) and four hits in six innings. All three runs scored in the third when Cleveland shortstop Jason Donald made two errors.
Cliff Pennington had a two-run triple, while the third run scored when Donald booted Coco's Crisp's ground ball. Crisp, who reached on the error, was given an RBI.
Daric Barton's RBI single tied the game in the seventh.
