Eric Chavez, Kevin Kouzmanoff and Eric Patterson had three RBIs apiece and Gio Gonzalez pitched seven scoreless innings as the Oakland Athletics routed the visiting Cleveland Indians 11-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Chavez drove in Oakland’s first three runs with a two-run double in the first inning and a run-scoring single in the third. Patterson homered in the fourth and had a two-run triple in the seventh. Kouzmanoff had a three-run double in the fifth.
Jake Fox and Adam Rosales added run-scoring singles and Daric Barton went 3-for-4 for Oakland, which had 15 hits against four Cleveland pitchers.
Gonzalez (2-1) allowed five hits and two walks and struck out three as the Indians were shut out for the third time in the last five games.
Cleveland starter Justin Masterson (0-3) was hammered in four-plus innings, giving up seven runs and eight hits.
Chavez doubled his season’s RBI count. The Oakland designated hitter had just three RBI in 51 at-bats entering the contest.
