Tommy Hunter went seven-plus innings and had his fifth quality start in six starts this season, leading the Rangers to a 3-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday night.
Hunter (5-0) gave up nine hits but allowed only one run with a walk and three strikeouts. The highlight came in the sixth, when Hunter needed just three pitches to get out of the inning.
The Rangers' offense gave Hunter a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Joaquin Arias’ RBI groundout, which scored Josh Hamilton. Hamilton reached on an infield single, which extended his home hitting streak to 23 games. That ties him for the second-longest in franchise history with Ivan Rodriguez and Michael Young.
The Rangers took a 2-0 lead in the fifth on Elvis Andrus’ RBI single, and extended it in the seventh when Nelson Cruz scored on Justin Smoak’s double-play grounder.
The White Sox avoided the shutout in the eighth inning, scoring a run on an Alex Rios RBI groundout.
Chicago starter John Danks (7-7) went six innings, allowing two runs, both earned, on four hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
