Carlos Quentin and Gordon Beckham homered and Jake Peavy tossed seven shutout innings as the Chicago White Sox extended their winning streak to 10 games with a 6-0 victory over the cross-town Cubs on Friday afternoon.
Quentin's three-run homer punctuated a four-run first inning that chased Cubs starter Carlos Zambrano, who later had words with first baseman Derrek Lee. The two screamed at each other in the dugout and had to be separated by manager Lou Piniella and two other coaches.
The White Sox padded their lead on Beckham's solo home run, his second of the season and first since April 11. Beckham added an RBI sacrifice fly for the Sox, who are in the midst of their longest winning streak since 1976.
Peavy (7-5) was in control throughout, limiting the Cubs to just three hits. He walked two and struck out nine en route to his fourth win in five decisions.
Zambrano (3-6) took the loss in his worst outing since returning from a bullpen stint June 4. Tom Gorzelanny relieved Zambrano to start the second frame and was solid, allowing one run in 3 1/3 innings while striking out four.
Lee, Mike Fontenot and Ryan Theriot had hits for the Cubs, who have scored just four runs over their past four games.
