Carlos Quentin homered and drove in three while John Danks pitched seven strong innings in Chicago’s 9-6 win over the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday.
Quentin’s three-run homer in the fourth inning off Braves starter Tommy Hanson (7-4) was his ninth of the season. Quentin is batting just .221 and homered for the first time since June 11.
Chicago sent 10 batters to the plate in the second inning and scored five times off Hanson, who entered 4-0 with a 0.75 ERA in interleague games. A.J. Pierzynski and Omar Vizquel each had two-run singles in the inning.
That was plenty for Danks, who allowed three runs and six hits in seven innings. The only big blow was Martin Prado’s homer to lead off the game. The Braves scored three runs in the final two innings off Chicago’s bullpen, forcing manager Ozzie Guillen to go to Bobby Jenks in the ninth for his 15th save.
The White Sox have won 11 of their last 12 and are over .500 for the first time since opening day.
