David Ortiz hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning and Jed Lowrie hit two homers as the Boston Red Sox rallied for a 9-6 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night at Safeco Field.
Franklin Gutierrez had given the Mariners a 5-4 lead with an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh, scoring Ichiro Suzuki.
But Victor Martinez and former Mariner Adrian Beltre singled before Ortiz launched his 30th homer to deep right off reliever Brandon League (9-7), who took the loss as the Mariners (55-90) dropped their sixth in a row.
Lowrie had a two-run homer in the second and a solo shot in the fourth.
Beltre went 3-for-4 as the Red Sox (81-64) moved 6 1/2 games behind Tampa bay for the American League wild card.
Reliever Rich Hill (1-0) picked up the win.
Suzuki had three hits, giving him 189 on the season and scored four runs. Gutierrez was 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Chone Figgins was 4-for-4. Russell Branyan also drove in two runs.
