CC Sabathia pitched eight strong innings to lead the New York Yankees to a 5-2 win over the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium on Saturday.
Sabathia scattered six hits and struck out four while walking one as the Yankees claimed the second game of the four-game series.
Victor Martinez homered in the second inning to give Boston a 1-0 lead. Adrian Beltre and Mike Lowell doubled to increase the Boston lead to 2-0.
The Yankees did all the scoring the rest of the way dropping Boston six games behind New York in the AL East race.
Curtis Granderson began the Yankee comeback with a triple in the bottom of the second inning. He later scored a ground out by Ramiro Pena.
Pena drove in two runs filling in for Alex Rodriguez, who was injured in pre-game batting practice when he was struck by a line drive off the bat of Lance Berkman.
Robinson Cano drove in the go-ahead run in the fifth inning off loser John Lackey. Mariano Rivera pitched the ninth inning for his 23rd save.
