Adrian Beltre hit a three-run homer and Victor Martinez had five hits as the Boston Red Sox rallied past the Oakland Athletics 9-4 at Fenway Park Tuesday night.
Daric Barton gave Oakland a 2-0 lead in the third inning with a two-run homer. The A’s made it 4-0 in the fifth on an RBI single by Jack Cust and run-scoring double by Mike Ellis.
But Beltre got the Red Sox back in the game with a three-run homer in the fifth inning over the left-field wall.
Boston took the lead for good in the sixth inning when Dustin Pedroia grounded into a double play with the bases loaded and none out to score the first run. Martinez then belted his third of four doubles in the game to score the go-ahead run.
Boston put the game away with three runs in the eighth including an RBI double by Martinez that hopped into the right field stands.
The rally made a winner out of John Lackey (6-3) who struggled most of the night. Lackey allowed 12 hits and two walks in six innings. Tyson Ross (1-4) took the loss. He faced two batters in the sixth and both came around to score.
