Ramon Santiago hit a two-run homer, while Armando Galarraga and a quartet of relievers scattered seven hits to lead the Detroit Tigers to a 5-1 win over the Boston Red Sox at Comerica Park Sunday.
Santiago's blast in the fourth inning came off losing pitcher John Lackey (4-2). Lackey allowed all five runs on nine hits in seven innings. He walked four and fanned four.
Detroit improved to 14-5 at home on the season. The Tigers opened the scoring in the first inning on an RBI single by Danny Worth. They made it 2-0 on a bases-loaded walk to Johnny Damon.
Boston scored its only run of the game in the third inning on an RBI double to shallow center by Jeremy Hermida.
The Tigers got the run back on an RBI grounder by Brandon Inge. Santiago capped the scoring with his first home run of the season in the fourth.
Galarraga made an emergency start for the Tigers and allowed three hits and three walks in 5 1/3 innings. It was his first major league appearance of the season.
