Dustin Pedroia slammed a three-run home run and Bill Hall and Adrian Beltre added two-run shots as the Boston Red Sox pummeled the Los Angeles Angels 17-8 on Monday night.
Coming off a three-game sweep at the hands of the lowly Baltimore Orioles, the Red Sox unleashed their frustrations on the Angels with a season-high 20-hit attack in the opener of a 10-game homestand.
Kevin Youkilis belted a solo homer and Mike Lowell and J.D. Drew combined for eight hits and seven RBIs as the Red Sox snapped a three-game losing streak and sent Los Angeles to its fourth consecutive defeat.
Boston starter Clay Buchholz (3-2) labored through 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs and eight hits while walking three and striking out two. He left after throwing 109 pitches.
The early-season woes continued for Angels starter Joe Saunders (1-5), who was tagged for seven runs and nine hits in four-plus innings, including the homers by Hall and Youkilis.
Lowell had three doubles and drove in four runs as seven Red Sox players had at least two hits apiece.
Kendry Morales went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Maicer Izturis and Howie Kendrick each drove in two runs for the Angels, who remained winless on their 10-game road trip.
