The Metrodome went out with a bang, as the Minnesota Twins won a division title last season.

Target Field isn't off to a bad start either.

Playing their first outdoor home game since Sept. 30, 1981, the Twins defeated Boston, 5-2 in front of 38,145 fans Monday in Minnesota's spanking new ballpark.

Carl Pavano (2-0) picked up Target Field's first win, allowing one run in six innings. Jon Rauch got the first save, his fifth in five chances, with a perfect ninth. And the first home run went to Jason Kubel, who hit a solo shot in the seventh off Scott Atchison.

Kubel and Joe Mauer both had three hits and drove in two runs apiece.

All in all, it was a memorable day.

The Twins started quickly off Jon Lester (0-1) with two runs in the first. Denard Span drew a leadoff walk and took second on Orlando Hudson's single. With two outs, Michael Cuddyer's single to left scored Span. Hudson then scored on Kubel's infield hit.

Mauer doubled in a run for a 3-0 lead in the second. David Ortiz drove in Boston's first run with a fourth-inning double, but the Twins got that run back on Mauer's RBI single.

Kubel's homer made it 5-1. Dustin Pedroia's sacrifice fly off Matt Guerrier made it 5-2 in the eighth, but that was the end of the scoring.

Lester allowed four runs in five innings.

So far, Rauch has been perfect filling the big shoes of Joe Nathan, who will miss the season with an elbow injury. Rauch breezed through the ninth on nine pitches.
