Corey Patterson hit a two-run homer and chipped in an RBI sacrifice fly to lead the Baltimore Orioles past the Tampa Bay Rays 8-7 Sunday.
The O’s jumped out to an early lead before the Rays used a four-run sixth inning to take a 5-4 lead. The Orioles answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning and then added two more in the seventh.
Alfredo Simon picked up the win with a scoreless inning pitched and Dan Wheeler took the loss for the Rays, allowing two runs in a third of an inning.
Koji Uehara earned his sixth save of the season.
Orioles rookie starter Chris Tillman went 5 1/3 innings, allowing two homers and three earned runs. Wade Davis gave up four runs on six hits while striking out five in five innings of work for the Rays.
The Rays remained 2 1/2 games behind first-place New York in the AL East. The Yankees dropped a 7-3 decision to Toronto.
Nick Markakis added two hits and two RBIs for Baltimore.
Evan Longoria had one of four Tampa Bay home runs on the afternoon, his 20th of the year.
