Luke Scott and Felix Pie had three hits apiece and three Baltimore pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout as the streaking Orioles blanked host Tampa Bay 5-0 on Friday night.
Scott hit his 22nd homer of the season in the seventh inning and Pie had a run-scoring double in Baltimore’s three-run first inning. Adam Jones capped the first-inning scoring with a two-run double.
Jeremy Guthrie (7-11) pitched six innings of two-hit ball for his third consecutive victory. Guthrie walked four and struck out three. Koji Uehara pitched two scoreless innings and Mike Gonzalez finished up.
The Orioles are now 9-2 under new manager Buck Showalter, while the loss was the seventh in nine games for slumping Tampa Bay.
Baltimore also scored in the fourth inning on Josh Bell’s run-scoring single.
Rays starter James Shields (10-11) allowed four runs and 10 hits in five innings.
