Adam Jones hit a two-run homer and Nick Markakis drove in a pair of runs to help the Baltimore Orioles to a 5-4 victory over the San Diego Padres on Saturday.
Luke Scott had three hits and drove in a run and Kevin Millwood turned in a steady performance to pick up his first win of the season for the Orioles, who moved to 8-28 on the road.
Millwood (1-8) gave up three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in six innings.
Alfredo Simon worked through a shaky ninth to preserve the victory with his seventh save. He allowed the first two batters of the frame to reach before Oscar Salazar brought one in with a groundout. Simon then retired to next two to limit the damage.
The Padres grabbed a 3-1 lead on a single by Jerry Hairston Jr. in the first. It didn’t last as the Orioles tied it up in the third and took the lead for good on Jones’ ninth homer of the campaign in the sixth.
San Diego starter Clayton Richard (4-4) took the loss, allowing five runs - four earned - in six innings.
