Adrian Gonzalez singled in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the San Diego Padres to a come-from-behind 3-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.
Trailing by a run entering their final at-bats, the Padres struck for a pair. David Eckstein brought in one with a single, and two batters later, Gonzalez hit a single through the right side off David Hernandez (2-6) to score Aaron Cunningham.
That made a winner of closer Heath Bell (3-0), who allowed the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth on Julio Lugo’s single that plated Ty Wigginton for the 2-1 edge.
Gonzalez reached base five times, finishing with three hits, two walks and two RBIs, including a sixth-inning double that evened the score.
Wigginton had given the Orioles a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the fourth.
San Diego starter Wade LeBlanc was in line for the win after allowing a run on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings but took the no-decision.
Brian Matusz gave up one run on six hits over six innings for Baltimore, which has dropped six of seven.
