Luke Scott hit a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Baltimore Orioles a come-from-behind 6-5 victory over the Seattle Mariners Thursday afternoon.
Seattle held a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth thanks to a two-run homer from Ichiro Suzuki and solo shots from Michael Saunders and Mike Sweeney off Baltimore starter Kevin Millwood.
Felix Hernandez allowed just one run on five hits in seven innings for the Mariners before Brandon League (3-3) took over in a dismal showing.
Corey Patterson greeted League with a homer to start the bottom of the eighth. Baltimore then loaded the bases, and with one out, Scott knocked the go-ahead grand slam to left-center.
Alfredo Simon came on for the Orioles in the ninth and earned his fifth save in an uneasy performance. Simon allowed a pair of base runners and then a single to Suzuki in which Patterson threw out Josh Wilson at home plate for the final out.
Mark Hendrickson (1-0) tossed 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to get the win.
Saunders also had an RBI single in the fifth for the Mariners to tie things at 1-1 after Ty Wigginton singled home a run in the fourth.
