The Oakland A’s got three runs in the first two innings, plus a strong effort from starter Ben Sheets en route to a 6-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday.
Sheets (1-0) blanked the Orioles on five hits in six innings for his first victory since 2008. He missed all of last year with arm problems before comimg to Oakland this offseason.
Ryan Sweeney got an RBI groundout, followed by a Kevin Kouzmanoff sacrifice fly for a quick 2-0 lead in the first against starter David Hernandez (0-2). Rajai Davis added an RBI single in the second to make it 3-0.
The A’s got a run on second baseman Ty Wigginton’s error in the fourth. Eric Chavez’s sacrifice fly in the fifth made it 5-0 and Cliff Pennington doubled in a run in the eighth.
Nick Markakis and Adam Jones both had RBIs for the Orioles, who lost their seventh straight game.
