Alex Verdugo and Reese McGuire homered and Brayan Bello overcame a rough start to pitch six innings as the Boston Red Sox snapped a three-game losing streak with a 6-4 victory against the host Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night.
Eugenio Suarez homered and drove in three runs for the Mariners, who lost for just the second time in their past seven games.
Bello (8-6) gave up four runs on eight hits, with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Kenley Jansen pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his 24th save of the season.
The Mariners took the lead in the bottom of the first inning as their first four batters reached base. J.P. Crawford led off with a walk and Julio Rodriguez and Suarez both grounded singles to left field, the latter scoring Crawford from second. Cal Raleigh walked to load the bases before Bello rebounded to retire the next three hitters to end the threat.
The Red Sox scored three times off Mariners rookie right-hander Bryce Miller (7-4) in the fourth.
Masataka Yoshida led off with a double to right, Rafael Devers walked and Adam Duvall was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With one out, Christian Arroyo sent a liner to right that bounced off the warning track and over the fence for a ground-rule double, giving the Red Sox the lead. McGuire followed with a sacrifice fly to center to make it 3-1.
The Red Sox added to their lead in the fifth when Jarren Duran led off with a double to right and Verdugo launched a two-run shot to center.
The Mariners cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning as Cade Marlowe led off with a single and, two outs later, Suarez went deep to left.
With two outs in the sixth, McGuire hit a solo shot to right to make it 6-3 and end Miller's night.
Miller allowed six runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings, with two walks and four strikeouts.
The Mariners got back-to-back doubles by Dominic Canzone and Ty France leading off the bottom of the sixth to pull within 6-4.
