Phillip Ervin drove in four runs with two homers, including a tie-breaking shot off Matt Strahm in the bottom of the fourth, and Scott Schebler hit a grand slam to cap a five-run sixth Friday night to lead the host Cincinnati Reds to a 12-6 victory over San Diego at Great American Ball Park.

Right-hander Michael Lorenzen (3-1), who faced the minimum nine hitters while allowing one hit with a strikeout in three scoreless innings, was credited with the win. Strahm (3-4) took the loss in relief.

Ervin's first homer of the game was just inside the left field foul pole and broke a 4-4 tie.

Ervin also started the scoring in the sixth. With Mason Williams and Tucker Barnhart at the corners following back-to-back singles against Padres right-handed reliever Rowan Wick, Ervin laid down a perfect suicide squeeze bunt to drive in Williams and reach first. Lorenzen followed by pushing a bunt past Wick for a single to load the bases.

Schebler then hit the Reds' major league-leading 10th grand slam of the season off Wick. It was Schebler's 15th homer of the season.

The Reds scored their final two runs on Ervin's second homer of the night and sixth of the season in the seventh off right-hander Miguel Diaz. Ervin finished 3-for-3 with a walk, the four RBIs and four runs scored.

San Diego took a 2-0 lead in the first on RBI singles by Eric Hosmer and Wil Myers.

But the Reds took advantage of the wildness of rookie San Diego starter Brett Kennedy to score four runs in the bottom of the second. Kennedy issued four walks in the inning, with the first run scoring on a passed ball by rookie catcher Francisco Mejia ahead of a three-run double by Jose Peraza.

Hunter Renfroe hit his second homer in as many nights in the Padres third, and doubles by outfielders Franmil Reyes and Manuel Margot off Cincinnati starter Anthony DeSclafani in the top of the fourth tied the game. But the Reds scored eight straight runs before Hosmer hit a two-run homer in the eighth.

Neither starter was around long. Kennedy allowed four runs on one hit and the four walks in 1 2/3 innings. DeSclafani allowed four runs on eight hits with three strikeouts in four innings.

The start of the game was delayed by two hours and 37 minutes due to rain.
