Royals 6, Mariners 5 (12): Salvador Perez delivered a go-ahead double in the top of the 12th inning as visiting Kansas City won in thrilling fashion for the second straight contest.
After Wade Davis (8-11) stranded runners on first and third with no outs in the 10th and worked a perfect 11th, Alex Gordon drew a walk to lead off the 12th against Lucas Luetge (1-3) and moved up following a walk to Johnny Giavotella. Perez followed with a line-drive double on the next pitch to plate Gordon.
Greg Holland relieved Davis and worked around two walks in the 12th to post his franchise record-tying 45th save for Kansas City, which moved three games back of idle Cleveland for the final spot in the American League wild-card chase. The Royals also got a walk-off grand slam from Justin Maxwell in the 10th inning against Texas on Sunday and have won four of five overall.
Billy Butler opened the scoring in the fourth when he followed one-out singles from Emilio Bonifacio and Eric Hosmer with one of his own to plate Bonifacio. After Almonte redeemed himself for an overthrow that allowed Hosmer to score on the same play with an infield RBI single in the sixth, Nick Franklin ripped a run-scoring single down the left-field line to give Seattle a 3-2 lead.
Bonifacio and Perez hit run-scoring singles during a three-run eighth, but Franklin Gutierrez and Michael Saunders hit back-to-back homers to knot it at 5-5. The Royals appeared to be in trouble when Kyle Seager doubled and moved to third following an error in the 10th, but escaped without damage when Endy Chavez lined out and Alex Gordon’s throw from left field beat Seager at home.
