Tigers 12, Phillies 4: Rick Porcello tossed six solid innings and Jhonny Peralta hit a grand slam as host Detroit scored eight runs in the sixth to send sloppy Philadelphia to its season-high eighth straight loss.
The Tigers won for the seventh time in eight games despite seeing slugger Miguel Cabrera ejected by home plate umpire Chad Fairchild during an at-bat with the bases loaded in the third. Matt Tuiasosopo took over the at-bat and struck out before contributing two RBIs later in the game.
Porcello (8-6) allowed single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings as the Phillies took a 3-0 lead. He scattered seven hits and struck out three in winning his fourth straight start.
Tuiasosopo delivered a run-scoring single while Prince Fielder and Victor Martinez had RBI groundouts to tie it in the bottom of the fifth against rookie starter Jonathan Pettibone. A bunt single, three Phillies errors and three walks - two with the bases loaded - made it 7-3 in the sixth before Peralta capped the frame with his fourth career grand slam.
Carlos Ruiz, Laynce Nix, Darin Ruf and Kevin Frandsen had RBI singles for the Phillies, whose slide matches their longest since September 1999. Jake Diekman (0-1) – the first of three Philadelphia pitchers in the sixth – got the loss after giving up four unearned runs in one-third of an inning.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Tigers manager Jim Leyland was also tossed by Fairchild after the Cabrera ejection. ... Ramon Santiago was 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored while Austin Jackson went 2-for-4 with two walks and scored twice for Detroit. ... Pettibone was charged with three runs on seven hits and four walks in five innings.
