Tigers 6, Indians 4: Prince Fielder had a three-run double among his two hits and Rick Porcello pitched six solid innings as Detroit sent visiting Cleveland to its sixth straight loss.
Andy Dirks added a pair of RBI singles for the Tigers, who have won five of seven meetings this season, including four straight. Detroit extended its American League Central lead to 4 1/2 games over the Indians.
Porcello (3-3) was charged with two runs - one earned - on three hits and struck out seven. He retired 12 straight after allowing back-to-back hits to start the game. Jose Valverde allowed a hit and a walk with one out in the ninth to bring the go-ahead run to the plate before nailing down his eighth save.
Cleveland took the lead on Jason Kipnis' RBI single in the first, but Dirks tied it with a run-scoring single in the second and Fielder put the Tigers ahead with his bases-clearing double into the gap in right-center. The Tigers tacked on two more in the third before Ryan Raburn helped the Indians get back in it with an RBI groundout in the fifth and a two-run homer in the seventh.
Indians starter Carlos Carrasco was tagged for six runs on 10 hits in four innings in his first major-league start since April 9. Carrasco (0-2) was called up from Triple-A Toledo and started in place of Justin Masterson, who was bumped to Sunday's series finale.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Tigers pitchers have recorded seven or more strikeouts 35 times this season. Entering play Saturday, no other team in the majors had more than 23. … Indians 1B Nick Swisher went 0-for-4 and is hitless in his last 24 at-bats. … The Tigers announced RHP Anibal Sanchez will miss his scheduled start Sunday because of a stiff shoulder. LHP Jose Alvarez will have his contract purchased and make his major-league debut in Sanchez's place.
