Rays 11, Indians 3: Yunel Escobar recorded three hits, including a two-run homer, as visiting Tampa Bay rolled to its seventh victory in the last eight games.
Evan Longoria also homered and knocked in three while James Loney added two RBIs for the Rays, who took two of three in the series. Matt Joyce collected two of Tampa Bay's 14 hits and scored twice, and Jeremy Hellickson (3-2) allowed nine hits and three runs over five innings to get the victory.
Carlos Santana was 3-for-4 with a run scored for the Indians, who have dropped nine of their last 13. Cleveland starter Zach McAllister (4-5) yielded seven hits, four walks and five runs (four earned) in 4 1/3 innings – his shortest stint of the season.
Loney lined a two-run double just off the tip of center fielder Michael Bourn’s glove with two outs to give Tampa Bay a 2-0 lead in the first. Longoria added a two-out RBI single in the third while Sam Fuld tripled and scored on an infield single by Jose Lobaton in the fourth for a 4-0 advantage.
A wind-blown, run-scoring double from Yan Gomes and a two-run single from Mike Aviles with two outs pulled Cleveland within 4-3 in the fourth. Escobar drilled his two-run blast to straight-away center field to put the Rays up 7-3 in the sixth and Longoria capped a four-run rally in the eighth with a two-run homer for an 11-3 advantage.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Indians manager Terry Francona was ejected in the fifth for arguing balls and strikes with home plate umpire Bill Welke. It was the first time Francona has been tossed from a game while with Cleveland. … The Rays, who are 9-3 in their last 12 on the road, have Monday off before starting a three-game series at the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday. … Michael Brantley and Bourn added two hits each for Cleveland, which dropped to 6-14 against American League East opponents.
