Padres 12, Diamondbacks 2: Chris Denorfia and Jedd Gyorko each drove in two runs during a four-run fifth inning which broke a 2-2 tie as host San Diego enjoyed a rare offensive outburst.
Chris Robinson belted a three-run homer for his first major-league hit while Chase Headley also had three RBIs for the Padres, who scored 11 runs in their previous seven games and hadn't scored this many since defeating Arizona 12-3 on July 27. Ian Kennedy (7-10) allowed two runs and six hits over seven innings to beat his former team.
National League MVP candidate Paul Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 15 games - the longest active streak in the major leagues - for Arizona. Randall Delgado (5-7) yielded six runs and seven hits in five innings and added an RBI single.
After Headley's RBI double in the first inning, the Diamondbacks took a 2-1 lead in the fourth as Goldschmidt came across on Kennedy's balk. The Padres tied the game in the bottom half when Tommy Medica drove Delgado's 3-1 pitch over the wall in right.
Denorfia, who had three hits and scored three times, delivered a two-out two-run single in the fifth inning to put San Diego in front for good and Gyorko followed with a homer to left - his 21st. The Padres scored in their final five innings with Robinson's blast to left-center in the eighth sending the San Diego dugout into a frenzy.
