Diamondbacks 7, Dodgers 2: Chris Johnson belted his second career grand slam in his Arizona debut, helping his new team cruise to victory in the opener of a three-game series.
Paul Goldschmidt gave the Diamondbacks an early lead with a three-run homer in the first off Aaron Harang (7-6), who lost for the first time since June 29.
With two outs and two men on in the fifth, Harang intentionally walked Miguel Montero to face Johnson, who was acquired from Houston on Sunday. Johnson promptly hit a 2-1 pitch over the left field wall for his ninth home run.
Trevor Cahill (9-9) gave up one run in six innings on 107 pitches for Arizona, which has gone 8-3 in its last 11 games.
After the game, the Dodgers acquired former All-Star closer Brandon League from Seattle for outfielder Leon Landry and right-hander Logan Bawcom.
Harang was in trouble from the start, giving up singles to Gerardo Parra and Aaron Hill to open the game. Jason Kubel flied out before Goldschmidt crushed his 14th home run over the center field wall.
After outscoring San Francisco 19-3 in a three-game sweep over the weekend, Los Angeles went 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position against Arizona.
The Dodgers loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth, but Luis Cruz flied out to center field to end the inning. Matt Kemp had three hits with one RBI for Los Angeles, which lost for just the fourth time in its last 12 games.
