Diamondbacks 5, Angels 0: Trevor Cahill pitched seven shutout innings and Aaron Hill hit a three-run homer to pace visiting Arizona.
Jason Kubel had three hits as the Diamondbacks won for the seventh time in nine games to reach the .500 mark.
Cahill (5-5) struck out a season-high eight while outdueling former Arizona pitcher Dan Haren. Cahill allowed three hits and two walks while winning his third straight decision and handing Los Angeles just its second loss in seven games.
Haren (4-7) allowed five runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings while pitching against the Diamondbacks for the first time since the franchise traded him to the Angels during the 2010 season.
Kubel followed Chris Young’s leadoff double in the first inning with a single to give Arizona a quick 1-0 lead.
Kubel began a four-run sixth inning with a one-out double. Miguel Montero was walked intentionally with two outs before Hill smashed a three-run homer to left to give the Diamondbacks a 4-0 lead.
Lyle Overbay and Ryan Roberts followed with back-to-back doubles to make it a five-run game.
Cahill departed after walking Hank Conger to start the eighth. Brad Ziegler finished the inning and David Hernandez completed the combined shutout with a flawless ninth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Kubel has three or more hits seven times this season. … Haren went 37-26 in 2 1/2 seasons with the Diamondbacks. … The homer was just Hill’s second since May 14. … Angels ace Jered Weaver (back) threw a 60-pitch simulated game on Friday and is slated to throw a bullpen session Sunday before the Angels decide a timetable for his return.
