Nationals 3, Reds 2 (10):
Ryan Zimmerman scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 10th as host Washington escaped and kept its hot start going.

Gio Gonzalez dominated through seven innings and Adam LaRoche drove in a pair for the Nationals, who improved to 5-2.

Washington was cruising toward the shutout until the ninth, when Brad Lidge issued a one-out walk to Joey Votto and served up a double to Scott Rolen. Jay Bruce was walked intentionally to load the bases and Ryan Ludwick finally got the Reds on the board, sending a single into left to plate a pair and knot it at 2-2.

Cincinnati ran into its own relief problems in the 10th, as Alfredo Simon (0-1) came on and hit Zimmerman with a pitch. Jayson Werth singled and both runners moved up on a groundout before Simon unleashed a wild pitch, bringing Zimmerman home.

Craig Stammen (1-0) got credit for the win.

Gonzalez was lit up for four runs and seven hits in 3 2/3 innings in his first start last week but was a different pitcher on Thursday. The left-hander, who was acquired from the Oakland Athletics in the offseason, struck out seven and did not walk a batter while recording 11 groundouts.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cincinnati is batting .221 through seven games. … Reds 2B Brandon Phillips, who signed a six-year, $72.5 million contract on Tuesday, has missed the past three games with a left hamstring injury. … LaRoche has four multi-RBI games already.
