Mets 3, Diamondbacks 1: Matt Harvey set a franchise record with 11 strikeouts in his major league debut and the visiting Mets snapped a six-game losing streak.

Harvey (1-0) threw 65 of his 106 pitches for strikes and gave up three hits with three walks over 5 1/3 innings. Bobby Parnell struck out Jason Kubel with two runners on in the ninth for his third save in eight opportunities.

New York won for just the second time in its last 14 games, while Arizona lost its second straight after winning five in a row.

The Mets gave Harvey an early lead on Scott Hairston’s two-run double in the first off Wade Miley (11-6), who allowed three runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Hairston had three hits for New York, which added another run in the fourth when Andres Torres scored on Rob Johnson’s sacrifice fly.

The Mets’ first-round pick in the 2010 draft, Harvey singled and doubled to become the first pitcher since 1900 to strike out at least 10 and have at least two hits in his major league debut.

After averaging nine runs during their five-game winning streak, the Diamondbacks have scored three runs on nine hits over their last two losses.

Arizona scored a run in the eighth when Kubel walked, moved to third on Paul Goldschmidt’s double and scored on Justin Upton’s sacrifice fly. Tim Byrdak struck out Lyle Overbay with two runners on to end the inning.
