Braves 15, Phillies 13 (11): Chipper Jones hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the 11th inning as Atlanta snapped an eight-game losing streak to Philadelphia in a wild back-and-forth contest at Turner Field.
After Dan Uggla's leadoff single in the 11th off Brian Sanches (0-1), Jones just missed a walk-off homer down the right-field line that hooked foul. Two pitches later, Jones connected on a 3-2 fastball to send the Braves to victory.
The Braves rallied from a 6-0 deficit against Philadelphia ace Roy Halladay, then erased a 12-8 deficit with a five-run eighth.
In the eighth, Atlanta got a run-scoring single from Tyler Pastornicky and a bases-loaded walk from Michael Bourn to pull within 12-10. Martin Prado followed with a two-run single up the middle to tie the score at 12-12, and Freddie Freeman's sacrifice fly to left-center easily scored Bourn to make it 13-12.
With two outs in the ninth, Philadelphia's Shane Victorino narrowly beat shortstop Jack Wilson's throw to first for an infield single, scoring Juan Pierre and tying the game at 13-13.
Atlanta trailed 6-0 after five innings against Halladay. After Bourn and Prado singled home runs, Brian McCann tied the game with a grand slam into the right-field seats. The Braves surged ahead 8-6 in the sixth on pinch-hitter Jason Heyward’s two-run single to right off Halladay.
Carlos Ruiz, who went 3-for-5 with a career-high seven RBIs, ripped a long three-run homer to left off Eric O’Flaherty to put the Phillies back in front, 9-8. Ruiz lined a three-run double just inside the first-base bag in the eighth.
Halladay surrendered 12 hits and eight runs in 5 1/3 innings.
Chad Durbin (1-0) pitched a scoreless 11th to pick up the victory.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Pastornicky and Prado each finished with three hits for Atlanta. … Halladay had allowed eight earned runs in 37 innings entering the game. His ERA rose from 1.95 to 3.40. … Atlanta starter Tommy Hanson gave up eight hits and four runs in 3 2/3 innings.
