Red Sox 6, Tigers 3: David Ortiz homered among his three extra-base hits and Daniel Nava delivered a three-run double as host Boston roughed up Justin Verlander to climb over .500 for the first time this season.

Verlander (5-3), who entered with an American League-low 2.15 ERA, lost his second straight start. He allowed five runs, 10 hits and struck out seven in six innings, his 53rd consecutive start of six or more frames.

Daniel Bard (5-5) allowed two runs in 5 1/3 innings for Boston (25-24), which won its sixth straight over Detroit at home.

Prince Fielder had a solo homer and two RBIs and Jhonny Peralta also went deep for the Tigers (23-26), who fell to 3-5 on their 10-game road trip.

Boston's Kevin Youkilis and Mike Aviles delivered bloop singles to center field in the fourth before Scott Podsednik's liner to right-center field loaded the bases with one out. After Nick Punto popped out, Nava sliced a 3-2 pitch down the left field line to clear the bases and give Boston a 4-0 lead.

Peralta's homer came in the fifth inning, when Detroit threatened for more before Bard struck out Miguel Cabrera with runners on first and second and two outs.

Boston took a 1-0 lead in the second after Aviles' fielder's choice scored Ortiz, who scraped a double off the Green Monster to start the inning.

Ortiz's double into the left-center field gap scored Adrian Gonzalez from first base in the fifth to put Boston ahead 5-1.

Fielder's long homer - over the Tigers' bullpen in right field - made it 5-2 in the sixth inning and his RBI single in the seventh got Detroit to within 5-3. Ortiz reached the Green Monster seats for his 11th homer to restore Boston's three-run cushion in the bottom half.

Alfredo Aceves pitched the ninth for his 12th save in 15 chances.
