Brandon McCarthy collected his first victory in more than three months and Josh Willingham had three hits - including a two-run homer - as the Oakland Athletics recorded a 5-3 triumph over the visiting Los Angeles Angels on Friday night.
Hideki Matsui snapped an 0-for-18 skid with an RBI single, and rookie Jemile Weeks and Conor Jackson added run-scoring singles for Oakland, which built a quick 4-0 lead and held on to snap a four-game losing skid.
McCarthy (2-5) allowed two runs on six hits and struck out seven to earn his first victory since April 10.
Five relievers bridged the gap to Andrew Bailey, who struck out a pair in the ninth to secure his ninth save of the season.
Rookie Mike Trout collected his first career RBI and Erick Aybar added an RBI single for Los Angeles, which fell for only the fourth time in 18 games.
Dan Haren (10-6) saw his four-game winning streak come to an end after yielding four runs on a season high-tying 10 hits in 6 1/3 innings.
