Conor Jackson had three hits and the Oakland Athletics defeated San Francisco ace Tim Lincecum for the first time with a 5-2 victory over the visiting Giants on Friday.
Lincecum was 5-0 in six previous starts against the Athletics before failing to win for the fourth consecutive outing. The victory was the third straight for Oakland following a stretch in which the Athletics lost 13 of 14 games.
Rookie righthander Graham Godfrey (1-0) outpitched Lincecum (5-6) to earn his first major-league win in his second career start. Godfrey allowed two runs – one earned – and six hits in seven innings.
Lincecum gave up three runs – two earned – and five hits in six innings.
He struck out seven and walked five. He had allowed just six runs in 46
previous innings against Oakland.
Grant Balfour pitched the eighth and Andrew Bailey finished up for his third save.
