Aaron Harang tossed eight strong innings and slowed Matt Kemp’s bid for the triple crown, while leading the San Diego Padres to a 3-0 win over the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday.

Harang (14-7) retired 21 of the last 22 batters he faced and gave up three hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Heath Bell worked a scoreless ninth for his 42nd save.

Kemp grounded into a double play to end the game and went 1-for-4 with no RBIs in his bid to become the first triple crown winner in 44 years.

The Dodgers' MVP candidate remains tied with Albert Pujols for the National League lead in home runs with 37, and he leads the RBI race with 119. Kemp is batting .325, six points behind Ryan Braun.

The Padres plated all of their runs during the fifth inning off Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley (11-11).

San Diego snapped a five-game losing streak to Los Angeles and improved to 5-12 against the Dodgers this season.
