Matt Cain threw six scoreless innings and the visiting San Francisco Giants notched their first win of the season with a 10-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday.
The first three hitters in the Giants’ order – Miguel Tejada, Freddy Sanchez and Aubrey Huff – combined to hit 7-for-13 with eight RBIs.
Cain (1-0) limited the Dodgers to five hits with no walks and three strikeouts over six innings.
The Giants grabbed a 4-0 lead in the fifth inning when Huff’s single capped a three-run rally that included four singles off Dodgers starter Ted Lilly (0-1), who allowed four runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings.
Huff also played a key role in San Francisco’s four-run sixth inning when his single off reliever Kenley Jansen knocked in two runs. Jansen retired just two batters and allowed four runs on four hits and two walks.
Sanchez added a solo homer in the eighth off Lance Cormier, and Mark DeRosa's groundout scored a run in the ninth to finish the Giants scoring.
After committing five errors in their first two games, the Giants were errorless in handing the Dodgers their first loss. Javier Lopez, Ramon Ramirez and Jeremy Affeldt threw one inning apiece to secure the shutout.
