Chad Billingsley overcame a three-run homer by rookie Brandon Belt and the Los Angeles Dodgers held on for a 4-3 victory over the visiting San Francisco Giants on Friday.
The Giants lost for the second straight time because of an error-filled inning. Down 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth, the Dodgers scored three runs on three singles and two Giants’ errors.
Billingsley (1-0) worked six innings, allowed three runs on five hits, walked one and struck out five. Jonathan Broxton retired the side in the ninth inning to earn his second save in as many games.
Matt Kemp opened the sixth inning with a single and scored on James Loney’s sacrifice fly. Rod Barajas singled and moved to third when Pablo Sandoval made an error on Aaron Miles’ single. Rafael Furcal’s run-scoring single followed an error by Jonathan Sanchez that allowed Miles to score.
Sanchez (0-1) took the loss after giving up two earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out eight.
