Clayton Mortensen threw six strong innings and the visiting Colorado Rockies snapped the San Diego Padres’ three-game winning streak with a 3-0 victory on Monday.
Mortensen (1-4) made a strong case to remain in the Colorado rotation by allowing five hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Huston Street worked a perfect ninth inning for his 16th save.
Clayton Richard (2-7) was the hard-luck loser for San Diego, giving up one run on five hits while striking out eight over seven innings.
Matt Reynolds struck out Alberto Gonzalez with the bases loaded in the eighth inning to end the Padres’ best scoring threat. The Padres have been shutout 10 times in their first 61 games.
After striking out four times Sunday against San Francisco, Carlos Gonzalez went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts as he started in center field and batted leadoff on Monday for the first time this season.
After Troy Tulowitzki singled home a run in the first, Colorado went scoreless until the ninth, when Seth Smith and Chris Iannetta knocked in two insurance runs.
