Cain (5-4) struck out a season-high 11 while giving up five hits and one walk. Cain improved to 16-0 dating back to 2010 when receiving at least three runs of support.

Brandon Crawford and Eli Whiteside broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh with run-scoring hits off Sean Burnett (1-3). The Giants’ No. 8 and No. 9 hitters - Crawford and Whiteside – combined to go 4-for-6 with two RBIs.

Still looking for his first major league win after eight career starts, Washington’s Yunesky Maya threw only 67 pitches before leaving after six innings.

Maya allowed one run on four hits with one walk and one strikeout. The Nationals’ starting pitchers allowed just three runs in the three-game series.

San Francisco has scored a total of 15 runs in the first six games of its 10-game homestand.
