Travis Wood pitched seven strong innings and Scott Rolen hit a two-run homer as the Cincinnati Reds took down the visiting Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 on Saturday.
Drew Stubbs had two hits, an RBI and a run scored for the Reds, who won the series opener in dramatic fashion on Thursday when Ramon Hernandez hit a walk-off three-run homer to cap a ninth-inning comeback.
Cincinnati did not need any heroics Saturday as it pushed across two runs in each of the first two innings and rode the pitching staff the rest of the way. Rolen followed a single by Joey Votto in the first with a deep shot to left off Shaun Marcum (0-1) to get the Reds started.
Stubbs made it 3-0 with an RBI triple in the second and came in to score when Votto reached on a throwing error by Rickie Weeks.
That was plenty for Wood (1-0), who allowed one run, four hits and struck out seven. The 24-year old lefthander yielded a solo homer to Erick Almonte in the fifth.
Casey McGehee drove in a run in the top of the ninth, but Francisco Cordero struck out Almonte with a runner on first to end the game and pick up his first save.
