Ryan Vogelsong got credit for his first career shutout as the San Francisco Giants blanked the host Chicago Cubs 3-0 on Saturday in a game that was called after six innings because of rain.
Buster Posey drove in a run, and Aaron Rowand and Freddy Sanchez each doubled and scored as the Giants participated in the first Saturday night game at Wrigley Field in nearly nine years.
Vogelsong (3-0), who had not pitched in the majors since 2006 before getting called up by San Francisco last month, had his second straight scoreless appearance. He scattered seven hits, walked one and struck out seven.
The Cubs had their own feel-good starter in veteran Doug Davis (0-1), who was pitching for the first time since last July after being signed to a minor league deal by Chicago last month. Davis was let down by his defense Saturday as he yielded three runs - one earned - and four hits in five innings, and struck out six.
The Giants got to Davis in the first when Sanchez reached on a double and Posey brought him in with a two-out single to left. They pushed two more runs across in the third as Vogelsong and Rowand scored on separate throwing errors.
