Andre Ethier extended his hitting streak to 21 games and sparked a first-inning burst to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 7-3 road victory over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday afternoon.
The Dodgers scored five runs in the opening frame against Carlos Zambrano (2-1), who was in a 3-0 hole before recording an out. Ethier and Matt Kemp started the surge with RBI singles and Jerry Sands followed with a run-scoring double. Chicago scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning.
Los Angeles received RBI singles from James Loney in the third inning and Aaron Miles in the sixth to make it 7-2. Darwin Barney closed the scoring for Chicago (10-11) when he plated Geovany Soto with a base hit in the seventh inning.
Hiroki Kuroda (3-2) went 6 2/3 innings for the win, scattering nine hits and giving up three runs, two of them earned.
Zambrano lasted five innings for Chicago, giving up six earned runs on eight hits.
