Jeff Baker went 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs, and the visiting Chicago Cubs took advantage of a costly error to defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-4 on Friday night.
After falling into an early 2-0 hole, the Cubs stormed back in the fourth inning with five runs - four unearned - against Randy Wolf (0-2). After an error by second baseman Rickie Weeks put the leadoff runner on base, Geovany Soto tied the game with a two-run homer to center field. After singles by Alfonso Soriano and Carlos Zambrano, Baker delivered a two-out, three-run shot to left.
The Brewers cut it to 5-4 with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but Baker singled home another run in the top of the sixth and Marlon Byrd added an RBI double in the ninth to provide some insurance for the Chicago bullpen, which closed with three scoreless innings.
Zambrano (1-0) went six innings, and allowed seven hits and four earned runs. Carlos Marmol worked around a pair of baserunners in the bottom of the ninth to earn his third save.
