Shane Victorino belted a two-run homer and Raul Ibanez doubled in a pair during a six-run third inning as the Philadelphia Phillies completed a three-game sweep of the Washington Nationals with a 7-3 home triumph on Thursday.
Roy Halladay worked seven strong innings and John Mayberry Jr. added an RBI double for the Phillies, who have won six of seven to match the Cleveland Indians for the best record in the majors at 21-9.
Lefthander John Lannan (2-4) got the start for the Nationals and worked out of trouble in the second before falling apart in the third. Lannan allowed Jimmy Rollins’ leadoff single and then served up Victorino’s blast. He would later walk Ryan Howard and yield back-to-back RBI doubles to Mayberry and Ibanez before being removed.
That was plenty of support for Halladay (5-1), who struck out 10 while surrendering two runs and six hits in seven innings. The reigning NL Cy Young winner has struck out 32 and issued two walks total over his last three outings.
Ibanez, who entered the series in an 0-for-35 slump, added a solo homer in the fifth and finished 8-for-12 with five extra-base hits in the three-game set.
