Chris Heisey made a diving catch to strand a pair of runners in the sixth inning and hit a three-run homer in the seventh to lift the Cincinnati Reds to a 6-5 victory over the host New York Mets on Monday.

Reds closer Francisco Cordero allowed the first two batters to reach in the ninth before getting Josh Thole to roll into a game-ending double play for his 36th save.

It was the Reds' first win against the Mets in five meetings this season.

Heisey's diving catch on David Wright's sinking liner to center field ended the sixth with runners at first and second, and he put the Reds ahead with a three-run blast to left in the next half-inning.

The Mets might have tied it in the eighth if not for leadoff man Jose Reyes' baserunning mistake. Reyes laced an RBI double into the right-field corner, but was tagged out after rounding second too aggressively. Ruben Tejada followed with a single that likely would have scored Reyes with the tying run.

Reyes went 3-for-4 and is tied for first with Milwaukee's Ryan Braun in the National League batting race with a .334 average.
