Justin Turner hit his first major-league homer and had a career-best five RBIs to lead the New York Mets to a 7-4 victory over the host Houston Astros on Sunday.
Turner had a game-tying two-run double during New York’s four-run fifth inning and hit a booming three-run homer in the sixth as the Mets won for the fourth time in five games.
New York’s Chris Capuano (3-4) gave up two runs and six hits over five innings. Francisco Rodriguez pitched a perfect ninth for his 12th save.
Houston led 2-0 on Chris Johnson’s run-scoring single in the second and Jason Michaels’ fourth-inning double prior to Turner knotting the score with his double to left field.
Turner scored the go-ahead run on Jason Pridie’s single and the Mets added another run by pulling off a double steal with Pridie on the front end.
Turner’s sixth-inning shot finished the day of Houston starter Aneury Rodriguez (0-2), who gave up seven runs – five earned – and five hits in five-plus innings.
Clint Barmes hit his first home of the season in the sixth and Matt Downs had a run-scoring double in the eighth for Houston’s other runs.
