Javier Vazquez tossed his first complete-game shutout in more than six years as the Florida Marlins continued their D.C. dominance Friday night, silencing the Washington Nationals 3-0.
Vazquez (11-11) scattered five hits while striking out seven en route to his first shutout since May 22, 2005, when he blanked the Detroit Tigers as a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The victory also gives him his first four-game winning streak since September 2009, a stretch that has seen him allow just one run over his previous 27 innings.
Vazquez retired 10 straight in the middle stages of the game and worked out of a two-on, none-out jam in the seventh, striking out Rick Ankiel and Danny Espinosa before catcher John Buck picked off Brian Bixler straying from first base to end the threat.
Mike Stanton had three hits and an RBI while Buck and Gaby Sanchez also drove in runs as the Marlins won for the 12th time in their last 13 games in Washington.
Nationals lefty John Lannan (9-13) surrendered three runs over his six-inning stint to fall to 1-6 in his last seven starts.
