Emilio Bonifacio and Gaby Sanchez each had three hits and two RBIs, and Javier Vazquez turned in another strong outing as the Florida Marlins handed the New York Mets only their third loss in 11 games with a 9-3 win Monday at Sun Life Stadium.
Vazquez (9-11) continued his recent surge with seven strikeouts in seven innings of one-run ball. The 35-year-old righthander has recorded eight consecutive quality starts.
Vazquez improved to 12-10 all-time against the Mets. The 12 wins match his most against any team. He also has 12 against Philadelphia.
Mets starter Chris Capuano (10-12) allowed six runs over four innings to remain winless in six starts against the Marlins this season.
The Marlins jumped on Capuano with two runs in the first and chased him with a three-run fourth keyed by Bonifacio's two-run single.
Jason Bay hit a two-run home run in the ninth for the Mets, his second homer in three games.
Florida has won three straight since snapping a three-game losing streak. Florida leads the season series 9-7 despite losing four of five at Citi Field last week.
The Marlins were without right fielder Mike Stanton, who sat out a second consecutive game with a tight right hamstring.
